How To: Wearing Dresses In the Fall

Do you love wearing dresses? Maybe you wear them a lot for church or work. Perhaps you just like wearing dresses as casual wear. While the spring and summer bring with them ideal dress weather, you might be thinking you’ll need to put your dresses away come fall. However, that’s not the case! Here are a few tips to help you wear dresses in the fall.

Layering is Your Friend

A great way to keep a dress modest, professional, and warm is to layer. If The dress has tank sleeves, put a shirt under it or layer a cardigan over it. Even if your dress already has short sleeves, you can always layer a long sleeve basic tee underneath for added warmth! In addition, if you’d rather not layer a sleeved top under your dress, but it’s slightly see-through on the top, you can always layer a spaghetti strap tank top underneath. The tank also has the added bonus of adding cleavage coverage  which can help you stay much warmer.

Wear Tights or Leggings

Wearing a dress that isn’t to the floor might mean cold legs in the colder months of the year. So, throw on a pair of tights or leggings. Tights in neutral colors like black, white, and brown can be put under almost any dress or skirt. It’ll keep you warmer, and add some extra coverage if your ensemble is a tad short. You can also wear cable-knit leggings with dresses. Leggings are usually softer than tights, but they don’t cover your feet like tights do. So, if you rock a pair of leggings, consider wearing them with ankle or full boots to cover up where the leggings end.

By covering up your legs, you’ll eliminate the potential for being cold, and they’ll also cover you up if a sudden breeze blows your dress up a little too high for your taste. You can never go wrong with a good pair of tights.

The Right Shoes

The right kind of shoes can vary from dress to dress. If you’re wearing a casual t-shirt dress, you can pair sneakers with it for a fun look. If you’re wearing something more formal, a darker pair of heels will complement any fall dress very well. If you’re having an especially cold or muddy fall, consider boots. Ankle boots or regular calf height boots can both be paired with dresses. As mentioned above, adding a pair of tights or leggings to boots can make your outfit look very cute and keep you warm.

Accessorize

The last thing to consider is your accessories. Wear some fun statement earrings to bring a little fun to your fall dresses. Or maybe wear a headband to add a pop of color to your otherwise dark-colored outfit. Perhaps try laying a few necklaces over the top of your dress for a playful and casual look.

There are so many amazing ways to style your dresses for fall. If you’re looking for some new dresses, layering tees, accessories, and more, check out Seagull Book. We have the best dresses for all seasons!
